Buddhism is a self-less “religion” that revolves around compassion and spiritual potential. I say “religion” because the teachings it provides are more like general guidelines. Buddhists don’t preach to know everything, and they don’t want to take over anybody else’s beliefs
It’s also a religion that often questions itself. Monks often engage in debates during their training, because they heavily rely on proof. Which means that they don’t rule out science and scientific theories. It’s more like the best of both worlds. Spirituality plays an important role, but so does the modern world.
Buddhism is very simple. Following the Noble Eightfold Path is the best way to engage in this practice, while still being true to yourself and figuring out your preference.
THE NOBLE EIGHTFOLD PATH
Wholesome View
Having the right ideas and a clear mind.
Wholesome Speech
Avoiding lying, slander, and verbal violence.
Wholesome Action
Not causing harm to others or to yourself.
Wholesome Effort
Actively moving in the direction of a good life.
Wholesome Concentration/Meditation
Remaining focused, remaining calm, and having intentional consciousness.
Wholesome Intention
Having the correct determination, not seeking vengeance, and wishing to help others as much as ourselves.
Wholesome Likelihood
Making a living the right way and loving what you do.
Wholesome Mindfulness
Gently monitoring and shaping your mental content.
This lifestyle just encourages people who are willing to listen, to be more kind. Kind to others as well as to themselves, attracting good karma into their lives.
